Box-shaped Lighthouse by BYTR Architects in Utrecht, Netherlands
The Project planned in 2006 by BYTR Architects and have built and realized in 2010. The new building was added to the corner house at the Utrecht canal to providing a new living layer in a metal rooftop extension. This new part is constructed with a glass wall is wrapped with a light, perforated aluminum skin. A new floor dwelling has a brick building wall and lined with ‘extended’ aluminum panels. The expanded metal allows sunlight to invade and surprising manner prevents passersby from viewing. The coarse mesh gives the box-shaped building is a softer character. This new floor was features the living room through the high wall unit with its easy and transparent staircase connected the upper floor, especially the kitchen and roof terrace are pleasant close. The rooftop terrace, acting as a herb garden, provides a good view over the canal. Because this terrace is sunk into the ceiling of the kitchen, the relation of the adjacent living-kitchen and terrace is strengthened. Terrace and kitchen come within reach, despite of the difference in level.
