Man-made Greenhouse for Butterflies by Bik Van der Pol
At glance, this architectural marvel is similar with Farnsworth House designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1951, you’re not mistaken because this artificial environment artwork is inspired from it. Bik Van der Pol created an architectural masterpiece which is a temporary home for butterflies, with radical change incorporated in their life-cycle, they are perfect as the ultimate agents for ideas of transformation, change and recycling. Submitted for the latest design competition produced by Enel Contemporanea for the MACRO museum in Rome. In this exhibition, all visitors are invited to enter the house, and interact directly with a garden and a butterfly. The glass walls of the model function giving a full view on the man-made greenhouse and its visitors wandering inside, as well as creating a link between the interior space and the museum space. “Are you really sure that a floor can’t also be a ceiling?” brings nature into the context of a museum, putting it in the same realm as works of art.
