Duplex Apartments in Katayama by architects Mitsutomo Matsunami
This stylish seven story building is located in Katayama, Japan and was designed by a very young architect based in Osaka, Mitsutomo Matsunami. The simplicity and complexity of this small apartment building facade caught people attention. Designing an apartment building in an urban setting often forces an architect to follow the same practices established in the name of efficiency. The architects was completes the challenge by stacking up ten boxes on less than 1,200 square feet of land with cost-effective construction methods. The ‘box stacking’ differently and elegantly without economic sacrifice, even accommodating a parking (bicycles, one or two cars) and storage rooms on the ground floor.
