Outdoor dining terrace and Fire pit
Landscape designer Gelinda Backman was charged to built this Enchanted Landscape by the homeowners with the task of incorporating “enchanted” and “ancient” aspects into the makeover of a wooded backyard. A dining terrace and fire pit surrounded by stone walls are focal points of a landscape that also includes a rain garden, winding pathways and a koi pond.
Landscape designer Derrick Meek demolished the eyesore, keeping only the retaining walls and camouflaging them with trees, this large home came with a code-violating, half-finished water park in the backyard. The back walls contain large “picture frames” which, with their stone inlays, help break up the wall. The back door of the house now leads to an oversized entertainment patio and an even larger pool.
Outdoor Private Playspace Design
Private Playspace-Whether it’s for roasting marshmallows with the kids or grown-up entertaining, the fireplace often becomes the outdoor gathering spot for the family. A new retaining wall on the steep slope provided the terrain for this patio and new lawn. A berm of cryptomeria trees will provide privacy from the neighbors. Designed by landscape architect Mark Schisler.
The focal point of this new outdoor kitchen is a wood-fired pizza oven imported from Italy. The 36″ oven turned out to have a 52″ base, so landscape architect Mark Schisler had to move the counters three feet to accommodate it. The oven is covered with a stone veneer, rather than real stone, to save more space.
Western Outdoors, an extra-large fountain and a Western-style fireplace are the focal points of this patio; the design and materials create a seamless extension of living space for the home. Design by Scott Cohen.

I treat my patio like an extension of the house, so the style fits warmly with the house décor. I have dark cherry furniture inside so I choose to keep with the warm feel and bought wrought iron patio furniture and used earth tone covers for the patio chairs.
